My Origin Story
Nine years ago I was doom scrolling on Facebook — as one does on a hot day in Pierre — when I stumbled upon an absolutely stunning photo of the Milky Way done by a photographer from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and I thought to myself:
Damn, I want to be able to do that too.
So…I taught myself
Not long after seeing that first Milky Way photo I had my first camera.
I was hooked. Obsessed. That turned into non-stop sunrise, sunset and Milky Way pics for many years.
The addition of several other hobbies has helped me hone my craft: kayak fishing, camping, rock hunting, camping on the ice and ice fishing, hiking, and riding motorcycle. All with a camera in hand. For the past three years I have been storm chasing, and this year was my best yet, with some amazing funnels and a brief tornado. It is incredibly fun, exciting and at times a bit sketchy, but absolutely awesome to see just how quickly mother nature can turn.
Throughout this time I have continued to document the special moments in the cosmos, the atmoshpere, and in my family. I have labored over getting the right lighting, waiting for the right moment or creating it, spending soul-crushing time editing in Photoshop, working in rapidly changing conditions, and much more, all for the last 9 years.
I developed the ability to find the special details in any scene.
Not only that, I have done photography in such extreme conditions that I know what it takes to get the shot that will leave you and your audience breathless.
